Description

As we crossed the gently rolling plains and entered the village of Oishi, the road began to slope and narrow, the houses clustered together, and we got the feeling that we had arrived in a human settlement. Our destination was a small hill climb and a large barn and field surrounded by hedges. The field was just the right size for one family to use and even share with others. Bathed in plenty of sunlight under the bright blue sky, we were sure to produce delicious vegetables. The barn was an old tiled building. The insulating clay walls would keep it cool in the summer. With a little work, it could be used for new purposes. The land we visited this time was located inside the village. Building relationships with our neighbours will be essential. Similarly, Mt. Oishi felt as familiar as our neighbours. The mountains, the sky, the neighbourly relationships. It looked like we could become aware of the natural time we had almost forgotten on a daily basis.

Fukuoka, located on the northern shore of Kyushu, is increasingly becoming a favored destination for those considering relocation to Japan, thanks to its unique blend of urban and natural attractions. One of its most significant advantages is its affordability; compared to major metropolitan areas like Tokyo and Osaka, Fukuoka offers a lower cost of living and more reasonably priced properties, making it appealing for first-time homebuyers and those seeking a more wallet-friendly lifestyle. The prefecture boasts a rich cultural heritage, characterized by its vibrant festivals and historical sites, such as the iconic Fukuoka Castle ruins. Additionally, the city of Fukuoka is known for its modern amenities, excellent healthcare facilities, and robust infrastructure, including an efficient public transportation system that makes commuting easy. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to stunning landscapes, including beaches, mountains, and hot springs, providing plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities year-round. The local cuisine is also a highlight, famed for its fresh seafood and the popular Hakata ramen. Moreover, Fukuoka is recognized as one of Japan’s most livable cities, with a youthful vibe, numerous parks, and a emerging startup scene, making it an inviting location for expats.
