This property is located on the northwestern tip of Amakusa-Shimoshima, the largest island of the Amakusa archipelago scattered in the southwest of Kumamoto Prefecture. To the west it looks out over the Amakusa Sea, and to the north it faces the Chijiwa Sea, surrounded by beautiful ocean scenery. A deep blue sea stretches out before you and verdant, sunlit mountains rise nearby, offering an excellent natural environment and landscape of sea and greenery. In particular, the long, protruding Tomioka Peninsula is known as a tombolo (a land-connected island); its beautiful sand dunes form a natural sheltered harbor, and the sandspit extending from the peninsula, called 巴崎, is also referred to locally as “小天橋” (literally “Small Tenkyō/Small Heavenly Bridge”).

Tamana City is blessed with abundant natural features — including the Ariake Sea, the Kikuchi River, the Kodaiyama and Kinbu mountain ranges — and is dotted with numerous ancient burial mounds (kofun), providing many historical resources. The area is also active in agriculture (rice, tomatoes and other vegetables, strawberries and mikan) and fisheries (nori seaweed and asari clams). At the northern foothills of Kodaiyama is Tamana Onsen, boasting over 1,300 years of history and excellent spring quality, while in the southern part of the city is Koten Onsen, the setting for Natsume Sōseki’s renowned work "Kusamakura". Located between the Kumamoto and Fukuoka metropolitan areas, the city has good transport connections—nearby are the JR Kagoshima Main Line, the Kyushu Longitudinal Expressway, and the Ariake Ferry. Uto City is located in the very center of Kyushu. Uto City is located at the junction of National Route 3, which connects Kyushu from north to south, the JR Kagoshima Main Line that runs along it, National Route 57 that runs east to west on the Uto Peninsula, and the JR Sankaku Line. Uto City is characterized by its good access to Fukuoka, Kumamoto City, and Kagoshima.
