The exterior is clad with Yakushima cedar boards. Completely different from common siding or mass-produced façades, the wood has a strong, natural presence. Just after completion the fresh wooden exterior shows a vivid color that forms a beautiful contrast with the blue sky; after a few years the color will mellow to gray, the boards will gradually contract and develop a weathered patina much like aged skin. That is the appeal of these houses.
